Changing Linux Hostname

  1. Change the hostname temporarily using the hostname command
    hostname $newHostname
    
  2. Make the changes permanent
  3. Open up /etc/sysconfig/network
    vi /etc/sysconfig/network
    
  4. Change the HOSTNAME field to equal your new hostname
    HOSTNAME=$newHostname
  5. Logout and on the next login you will see your hostname has changed
