SMART Values

MegaCli and SMART

MegaCli -PDList -a0

Grab all physical disks for the first controller
Find the # value for the "Device Id: #" line

If we want to check smart values for "Device Id: 0"

smartctl -d sat+megaraid,0 -a /dev/sda

Displays:
-a - all info
/dev/sda - on the first physical disk
-d - the type of sata connected to a megaraid controller "sat+megaraid"
,0 - the device id of 0 on the megaraid controller

If you're not behind a controller the type of -d auto or no -d will sometimes work.

If you do it behind a raid controller it will give you details about the RAID controller

smartctl -a /dev/sda

Running S.M.A.R.T Tests

Running a short test on a device id 2
smartctl -d megaraid,2 -t short /dev/sda

Show the results of the smart test.
smartctl -d megaraid,2 -l selftest /dev/sda
